2028 Women's Club World Cup host: United States selected by FIFA
The United States will stage the first FIFA Women’s Club World Cup in January 2028. Arsenal, Barcelona and Gotham FC are among the seven clubs already qualified.
The United States has been chosen as the 2028 Women's Club World Cup host, with FIFA confirming that the inaugural tournament will take place from Jan. 5–30 in 2028. The new global club competition will feature 19 of the best women’s clubs from around the world, with Arsenal and Barcelona among the teams already confirmed.
FIFA said seven clubs have qualified for the first edition, which will launch a tournament scheduled to be staged every four years. The decision gives the United States another major FIFA event after recent men’s tournaments held in the country.
United States to stage first FIFA Women’s Club World Cup
The inaugural FIFA Women’s Club World Cup will be held in the United States in January 2028. The competition is designed to bring together leading women’s clubs from different regions in a single global event.
The tournament will run from Jan. 5–30, 2028, placing it early in the football calendar. FIFA has confirmed that the event will include 19 clubs, with the Women’s Club World Cup to be held every four years after the first edition.
FIFA said its choice reflected the country’s recent record of hosting major events and the level of interest in women’s football in the United States.
"Ultimately, the United States’ recent excellence in staging top FIFA tournaments, combined with the significant interest in women’s football there plus its elite sporting infrastructure, made the country the standout option."
Sarai Bareman, FIFA’s chief women’s football officer, said the United States’ staging experience and infrastructure were central to the decision.
Arsenal and Barcelona among seven qualified clubs
Seven clubs have already qualified for the inaugural tournament, FIFA said. The confirmed teams represent clubs from Europe, North America, South America and Asia.
- Arsenal from England
- Barcelona from Spain
- América from Mexico
- Gotham FC from the U.S.
- Corinthians from Brazil
- Wuhan Jiangda from China
- Naegohyang from North Korea
Arsenal’s inclusion gives the English club a place in the first edition of FIFA’s new women’s global club competition. Barcelona, already one of the biggest names in the women’s game, are also listed among the qualified clubs.
Gotham FC will represent the host nation among the clubs already named, while América, Corinthians, Wuhan Jiangda and Naegohyang complete the group of seven confirmed teams.
Why FIFA picked the United States
FIFA said it opted to return to the United States following the successful hosting of both this year’s men’s World Cup and the men’s Club World Cup in 2025. The governing body pointed to the country’s event experience, sporting infrastructure and interest in the women’s game.
The selection also continues the United States’ role as a central host for major FIFA competitions. For the Women’s Club World Cup, it means the first edition will begin in a market where women’s football has a significant profile.
